Pallet safety & reuse

Pallet Sanding and Wood Dust

Cutting and sanding timber can produce harmful wood dust. A pallet's treatment mark does not eliminate the dust risk or establish that the material is free from residues. Check the timber history before reuse and use appropriate dust-control arrangements for the actual work and equipment.

Control exposure at the source

Review the relevant HSE wood-dust guidance and choose methods that reduce dust generation and spread. Suitable extraction and other controls should be selected for the activity. Avoid sanding unknown contaminated material as a way to make it safe, since removing a surface does not prove the timber's history or suitability.
