Pallet safety & reuse

Assessing a Pallet Before Dismantling

Before dismantling a pallet, establish its history and decide whether the material is suitable for the intended project. Inspect for damaged timber, fixings and contamination. Disassembly introduces risks from sharp nails, splinters and unexpected movement, so use appropriate tools and a controlled working arrangement.

Plan the work before starting

Do not treat a treatment stamp as approval for every reuse. Consider the tools, support and protective measures needed, and keep other people away from the work area. Where the timber's previous use is unknown or residues are present, select known clean material instead of trying to remove uncertainty by sanding.
