Choosing Materials for Pallet Furniture

Indoor furniture brings timber into prolonged contact with people and indoor air. A shipping pallet's heat-treatment mark does not establish furniture suitability or disclose earlier cargo, coatings and spills. Known clean timber selected for the project provides a clearer material specification than an uncertain used pallet.

Check more than surface appearance

Assess structural design, fixings, sharp edges and the suitability of finishes. Sanding improves a surface but does not certify cleanliness or remove every possible residue. For children's furniture, food-related items or other sensitive uses, choose materials appropriate to that purpose rather than relying on a pallet's shipping mark.
