Pallet safety & reuse

Are HT-marked Pallets Suitable for DIY?

An HT mark identifies a timber treatment process; it does not reveal everything a pallet has carried or make it automatically safe for furniture. Establish the pallet's source and history, then inspect condition and contamination. Unknown spills, coatings or residues can make a used unit unsuitable despite a legible mark.

Choose material with a known history

For a project with close skin contact, children or food-related use, purpose-selected clean timber is a more controllable starting point than an unknown shipping pallet. Avoid damaged or contaminated material and assess the finished project's structural requirements separately from the original pallet's handling role.

Details to check for your enquiry

  • Known source and cargo history
  • Condition, residues and coatings
  • Finished-project use and structure
