Pallet safety & reuse

Choosing Timber for Garden Pallet Projects

A garden project still needs suitable materials and a stable design. An HT mark does not prove that a used pallet has no contamination or will tolerate the intended outdoor exposure. Establish its history and condition before considering reuse, especially where people, animals or edible plants could contact the timber.

Assess the finished project

Think about loading, sharp edges, fixings and weather exposure independently from the original pallet structure. Use known clean material where history is uncertain, and select any coatings for the particular use. Do not assume a shipping pallet's load performance can be carried across to a raised planter, seat or other modified structure.
